How to Use CCTV Cameras

Closed Circuit Television also known as CCTV is primarily used in security systems. It varies from broadcast in that the signal is not openly transmitted; there are usually point-to-point links. Video cameras, which can be either digital or analog, transmit a signal to a designated portal and the owner of the system can watch the video feed in real time, or review it after a crime has already occurred. The footage would provide the police with evidence that would help solve the crime.

In factories and manufacturing facilities, cameras are used to insure governmental regulations and procedures are followed. This provides evidence that all regulations are being met and strictly adhered to. Another advantage is the events leading up to accidents that result in Workman's Compensation claims or personal injury lawsuits are recorded which can protect the company from fraud
CCTV cameras are most frequently used for surveillance in places like banks, airports, banks, stores, and even casinos. Hidden cameras are also utilized by homeowners in their security systems. When used in staffed surveillance situations CCTV makes it possible to monitor multiple parts of a location from a central control room with a collection of monitors. Instead of several security guards being stationed in multiple locations, ideally one security guard could survey a bank of monitors receiving a feed from several hidden security cameras. When they noticed something gone wrong, they would take a look and then call the police.
In the case of a crime that has already occurred, footage from a CCTV camera would be reviewed. Frequently cameras have recorded crimes like kidnappings, unrelated to the business that installed them, and provided leads for investigators. Most CCTV recordings are stored on a hard drive, although older and less expensive cameras record to videocassettes. Storage is another matter to address, and the owner should decide for how long he/she would like to keep tape before being erased. Whether the security system records to video cassettes or directly to a hard drive, the footage is held for a predetermined length of time before being erased, ideally not without determining the camera didn’t record anything valuable.
With the emerging use of digital video recorders, the hidden camera CCTV systems are advancing to motion detection and email alerts. Currently many systems can zoom or pan but are still small enough to go unnoticed. The cameras are high-definition, and are connected to computers making it possible to track individuals or objects. Features like these are refereed to as VCA or Video Content Analysis.
The more prevalent CCTV becomes, the more the question of individual privacy rights versus the public interest are raised. Many metropolitan areas have such a high concentration of cameras that a person can no longer walk a city block without being caught on tape.
Some systems have weaknesses that hackers can exploit. The hackers cross feeds or upload unrelated videos. Moreover, all cameras have the possibility of being tampered with. Trying to protect the camera from vandalism or being neutralized can make them less effective. There are reports of laser pointers being used to temporarily blind a camera. Broadcasting another wireless signal at the exact same frequency of the camera can jam it as well. However, all of these things are easily counteracted with careful placement, and many manufactures have features that they claim make the cameras less vulnerable to vandals. These small limitations do not effect how valuable a hidden security camera can be. Choosing the correct camera can eliminate most of these types of concerns. Some cameras are designed for outdoor use and others exclusively for indoor situations. They can be mounted in a number of different ways in which they can recede into its surroundings and go unnoticed which will prevent any sort of tampering. When a hidden secuirty camera is well-designed and hidden properly, it is very difficult to neutralize and therefore more likely to be untouched when a crime occurs.
A security system that includes a hidden security camera that utilizes closed-circuit television is a valuable tool in defending one’s assets and property, as well as people, whether they are staff or loved ones.
