Digital music has made more consumers interested in the world of vinyl album collecting.  Advancing technology allows us to download and listen to albums faster and easier than ever before.  What is missing is the memories that vinyl record music can bring.  Album collecting has become a popular pastime for music fans because of this.  For novices, record collecting can be a good way to become excited about the world of music again, and maybe even make a little bit of dough.  To start, if you have inherited an old record collection, don’t just assume that because they are vintage, it means they are worth something.  There are a number of issues you will need to know as you enter the world of vinyl album collecting.

The number one thing to know when you prepare to buy and sell is that condition means everything.  Your albums must be in near perfect condition to have any worth to a professional record dealer.  Just a few minimal defects can lessen the price of the album by half, no matter how old it is or who it is by.  Aside from the vinyl, your album cover and labels must also be near perfection.  Your vintage vinyls will only be worth a couple dollars if they are not in this condition.

Rarity is another big factor in record collecting.  The rarity of the album will determine its value. If you have the first ever Elvis Presley vinyl in superb condition, you have something large on your hands. The value of a vinyl can vary day by day.  This value will be based on what is in high demand and what is currently popular. Rare Classic vinyl plays a huge part in value. You will find that the most big and odd records are 45s.  They are hard and rare to find because most 45s were only regionally released.

What can sometimes make an LP worth much is what is inside the album. Some classic vinyl came with special promotional things, lyric sheets, photos, rare booklets and other interesting items. What you really want and what you need in your collection will make it most exceptional to you.  What is valuable to someone else may not be valuable to you.  This, More Than anything, will affect what you pay for an album and what you decide to sell it for.
