The Rapid Advancement Of Home Movie Equipment
If you've been around long enough, you probably remember old grainy VHS tapes or even Beta tapes as "de rigueur" entertainment of the day. One will be amazed to see how far technology has come by looking at Sony BDP-CX960 Blu-ray DVD MegaChanger, for example. However, if you haven't been, you may not even Know What a VHS or Beta tape actually is. Entertainment also had its heyday with other "bygone" mediums like eight track tapes or audiocassettes. Both of these were once top-of-the-line entertainment technology, but they had their flaws, including the fact that they weren't very durable. Simply, they wore out. One of the reasons was because to watch them, you had constantly rewind them.
Unbelievably, there was a predecessor to the modern DVD or Blu-Ray player. It was called the Laser Disc Player. This was probably the prototype for all of the different DVD, CD, and computer disc that we take for granted now. It was a disc made from the same kinds of materials, but because the technology back then was extremely primitive, the disc itself was about 11-12 inches in diameter, and was around 1/8th of an inch thick. The disc player was about the same size as modern slim line DVD players seen today.
Nonetheless, these players had problems. The discs were large and couldn't be stored safely very easily. They were loud, and they were very expensive to make, which means that there was not a lot to choose from with that particular technology. The first laser disc movie of this type was the Movie Star Trek, the Motion Picture. At that time, this was the best medium available, with the best stereo sound and picture. Anything else available at that point was very much second in line.
Today, with DVD and BluRay technologies so readily available, you see it everywhere in the market, and the technology itself is making the players themselves smaller, as well. Today, some people have gone to BluRay, but movies cost more for these systems than regular disc movies do, so DVD format movies continue to be very popular as well. With these, you can have most of the available technology, and you can buy multiple DVD disc "players" so that you can put all of your DVDs in a changer and simply switch when you want to watch one movie or another, such as Sony BDP-CX960. It'll simply find the movie you want to see.
There are many different features and functions, like programming a certain selection of movies or music remotely, a 400 disc capacity, and a separate slot for putting in rented movies, like the BDP-CX960. These systems come with standard features like full HD quality with a 1080p/24p accessory outlets. HDMI ports that convert regular DVD video into as close to HD that you can get. Good systems even have the new Dolby TrueHD sound systems.
If you're looking to buy a DVD disc changer, make sure you Know What You want. How many movies do you want to be able to store? What features would you like? Can you program it easily? Having a lot of features isn't going to help you if You Don't know how to use them, so the instructions should be easy to follow; you should know where the different output and input ports are, so that you can set things up by yourself without the help of a professional.
One thing you must know is that these players to require a lot of power, and because of that, the EnergyStar rating is highly sought after, so that you'll have the best energy efficiency possible, while still being able to have all of the bells and whistles you need to.
