Any story ideas about a girl and a cat who are really close?

I have to write this picture book about a girl who has a cat and they are really really close, it has to have something bad happen in it. The targeted audience is about age 7-10. Any ideas???

Make it unique. Don't do the usual Cat goes missing.....Gets found. That's too predictable and is already in a lot of books. You need surprising ideas that will really be unpredictable.

1) The girl could have gotten a dog for Christmas. (Draw girl in Pajamas seeing a dog in a little crate with a bow on top.) The cat could get jealous because the girl is forgetting the cat and the cat could be afraid of going near the dog. (Show picture of girl petting dog and cat on top of the stars looking sad.) Then have the girls mom talk to her about the cat and how she's forgetting it. (Show picture of girl and mom sitting on couch and a little speach bubble with a cat in it. She could be pointing to the cat on top of the stairs. Then at the end the cat learns to love the dog and they all play together.

2) The cat could have surgery and the girl is worried because it's a 50/50 chance the cat will survive. Of course the cat is ok and they do fun stuff together.

3) The cat could get stuck in a tree in her backyard. They call the firemen and there not in time. The cat falls but the girl catches him/her.
