The Frathouse Classic: The Pool Party
You Don't have to watch many movies to see the Swimming pool pumps fired up for a poolside shindig. Here are three of the best pool party scenes.
Caddyshack
It's not the most mature of movie scenes, but it's certainly worthy of a sustained giggle. During an employee pool day, a Baby Ruth chocolate bar flies into the pool and quickly get mistaken for the obvious. Chaos ensues. Not the nicest of pool accessories. Spoofing the 1975 Summer Blockbuster Jaws, this scene boomerangs back for an settling encore. When the pool is later drained, Bill Murray's character Carl Spackler enjoys a nutty snack.
Jesus Christ Superstar
Completely missing from the rest of this bizarre bible themed 70s Rock Opera, King Herod suddenly appears in campy, hedonistic style in a scene late in the movie. The film version sees a bare-chested, oiled Herod lounging around with a group of men and women in swimwear and afro-wigs. There's probably something funny in the Swimming Pool Chemicals. Productions at all levels usually use this version as the blueprint. If you've ever been in a school production of Superstar, you've doubtless seen your most swish classmate given a license to camp it up to a million for this one. Even Lloyd Webber outdoes himself in this scene, setting up some truely cringe-worthy rhymes: 'Prove to me that you're no fool, walk across my swimming pool'.
Anchorman
30 years after the real thing, Anchorman's memorable 70s Action News send-up gave us another extreme version of the decade's ridiculous hedonism. Not only a good stab at the frat-boy pool party trope, you'll also find modern party animals by the bucketload. Nearly the entire Frat Pack is here: Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Ben Stiller and Jack Black, all in one film with only Owen Wilson missing. Add in names like Seth Rogen and Steve Carell and you've got yourself one hell of a Hollywood fancy dress party.
