How much blood is too much on a menstrual cycle?
I have gone through at least 24 super tampons today. I have had to change them at least every 30 minutes. I'm trying to take it easy, keep my feet up, laying down, etc. Nothing seems to help. I am 4mos post-partum with my 2nd child. This is my first cycle since Sept 2003(didn't have a cycle between my two children for some reason) and I am not on any form of birth control or hormones. What could be causing this much bleeding? How much is too much? Is there anything I can do or should do to slow the flow?
Definitely get examined by your gyno ASAP. Like the other post said, because it's been so long since your last cycle, your uterine lining has built up substantially, so a D&C is probably in order to remove the excess. During a 'normal' period, you'll only lose a few tablespoons of blood, even though it may seem like more. Continual bleeding *may* cause anemia, so ask your doctor if you need to take an iron supplement following this episode.
